Whether the public realizes it or not, journalists are often first responders to events too. We bury our emotions and do our jobs in the face of tragedy, horror and disbelief.

(AUSTIN, TX RTDNA) - Media at Newtown tragedy Last Friday, like many newsrooms across the country, Michigan Radio had the TV monitor on the wall running non-stop coverage of the school shooting events in Newton, Connecticut.

As the reality of what took place began to set in, even the gallows humor typical of a newsroom disappeared and concern and disbelief took its place.

PTSD, Massacres and Damage to the Soul

Are we all crazy?

(PORTLAND, OR) - Candlelight vigil The enormity of the horrible massacre at a Connecticut school really hasn't hit many people yet, but the TV and news coverage that this "has broken our hearts" is appropriate.

When a long line of firemen, in remembrance to one of the children, stand with hats in hand and some with tears in their eyes, it should tell the rest of us that this is a horrible meaningful event should not be lost in time.

26 Slaughtered at Elementary School in Connecticut: 18 Children Dead

The Hartford Courant, citing unnamed sources, said many of the victims were in a kindergarten classroom.

Mike Wallace Passes Away at 93

Wallace was known to Americans for six decades of media involvement.

(SALEM) - Mike Wallace in 2007 Noted American newsman Myron Leon "Mike" Wallace died Saturday in New Canaan, Connecticut, at the age of 93. Also this week we said goodbye to our longtime Op-Ed Writer Henry Clay Ruark who was still working in media at 94.

During his career, Mike Wallace worked as a journalist, game show host and actor; his role in the media world was wide and varied.
