UPDATE: American Airlines Says 9 PDX Flights Now Cancelled

As many as 1,000 flights nationwide could be cancelled today by the airline.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - american plane at gate American Airlines, who has cancelled some 850 flights nationwide today conduct additional inspections of its MD-80 fleet to ensure precise and complete compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s airworthiness directive related to the bundling of wires in the aircraft’s wheel wells, says now that three inbound flights to Portland International Airport in Portland, Ore. are now on-time.

However, as of 10:55 AM one inbound flight is on-time, while 9 others have now been cancelled. Two Thursday morning flights out of PDX are also listed as on-time.

United 777`s Grounded for Tests

As of 6:30 PM EST, 36 of the 52 Boeing 777 aircraft checks have been completed.

(CHICAGO) - united 777 United Airlines is informing customers traveling on United's Boeing 777 aircraft that they may experience flight delays or cancellations as a result of a functional check being performed on the aircraft.

As part of a regular review of maintenance records, the company discovered that the functional test that checks the firing system on one of the five bottles in the cargo fire suppression system on the Boeing 777 was not performed.

Aloha Airlines Ends 61-Years of Service to Hawaii

The shutdown of Aloha's passenger operations will affect about 1,900 employees.

(HONOLULU) - Aloha Airlines Aloha Airlines announced today that it will be shutting down its inter-island and transpacific passenger flight operations.

Aloha's last day of operations will be Monday, March 31. Aloha will operate its schedule with the exception of flights from Hawaii to the West Coast and flights from Orange County to Reno and Sacramento, and Oakland to Las Vegas. Code-share partner United Airlines and other airlines are prepared to assist and accommodate Aloha's passengers who have been inconvenienced.

It is a mystery that captivates people and perhaps the discovery of this parachute will bring us answers.

(SEATTLE) - Photo of flight crew on D.B. Coopers infamous flight The FBI is investigating a parachute found by some kids near Amboy, Washington that may be from the country's most famous hijacker, the extremely elusive D.B. Cooper.

The man using the name Dan Cooper checked into the Portland, Oregon airport and hijacked a Northwest Orient flight that was heading to Seattle in November 1971. He told the flight crew that he had a bomb.

Delta: Salem Safe From Cutbacks for Now

Delta said Wednesday it raised domestic fares by $10 round-trip to offset the rapidly rising cost of fuel.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - delta jet Delta Airlines said Wednesday that Salem's flights from McNary Field to Salt Lake City are safe from cuts for now.

The announcement comes one day after the Atlanta-based carrier laid out plans to offer severance payouts to more than half its work force and eliminate 5 percent of its domestic flights by August as it deals with soaring fuel prices.

UPDATE: Southwest Airlines Grounds 38 737`s

Based on preliminary findings Southwest has placed three employees on administrative leave.

(DALLAS) - southwest plane Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly said today the airline is taking action on preliminary findings of its own internal investigation into allegations that it violated FAA regulations in March 2007.

A total of 44 aircraft were affected -- one was already retired, five were in maintenance for scheduled checks, and the remaining 38 were removed from scheduled service.

Boeing Files Protest Over Air Force Tanker Contract Award

Boeing is asking the GAO to examine several factors in the competition that they say were fundamentally flawed.

(ST. LOUIS) - KC 767 Citing irregularities with the process of the competition and the evaluation of the competitors' bids, Boeing has filed a formal protest with the Government Accountability Office, asking the agency to review the decision by the U.S. Air Force to award a contract to a team of Northrop Grumman and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company to replace aerial refueling tankers.

"Our analysis of the data presented by the Air Force shows that this competition was seriously flawed and resulted in the selection of the wrong airplane for the warfighter," said Mark McGraw, vice president and program manager, Boeing Tanker Programs.
