(SALEM, Ore.) - bin Laden Many of us have believed that Usama bin Laden died long ago and his image became an amazing tool for a government bent on keeping an American public scared and baffled.

David Miliband`s Afghan Endgame Slightly off Mark

The West must be willing to find a political solution.

(SEATTLE) - David Miliband It is typical to scoff at David Miliband's position for his post-political career.

But in a recent New York Times article the former U.K Foreign Secretary showed that his intellect and judgment on a number of key issues, including how to bring the Afghan War to an end, was and remains almost finely honed; but it lacks an indigenous solution to be airborne.

German WW II POWs In the U.S.

The U.S. housed, fed, and worked over 400,000 German POWs in 46 states with little or no risk to the populace.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Map of some of the important detention/internment camps operated by U.S. during WW II (German American Internee Coalition) I just finished "A Brother's Blood" by Michael C. White. The novel is set in Maine where German prisoners of war (POWs) were detained during World War I.

The novel begins many decades after the war when Wolfgang Kallick arrives in Maine from Germany to find out the details of his brother Dieter's death at the camp. The book is loosely based on the POW camp at Seboomook, Maine.

Kremastics

For the last half century or more the American people have been damned fools. It may be too late to do anything about it; in fact it almost certainly is too late.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Uncle Sam in surgery Many, if not most, Americans are in serious denial. The country they know and love is almost finished. As Lincoln famously said: “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” and America has never been so divided.

The Democrats hate and fear the Republicans, and the Republicans hate and fear the Democrats.

The Real War Heroes

From the book RADICAL PEACE: People Refusing War, published by Trine Day 2010.

(OLDENBURG, Germany) - War resistors "That must be them." Petra took one hand off the steering wheel and pointed to a group of soldiers about two hundred meters away, standing along our road next to a high chainlink fence topped with barbed wire.

Traffic was light, but Petra said, "I don't want any other cars around." She pulled off the road and stopped. "Get everything ready."

A Note on the American Psyche

In one of my stories last year I reviewed Shock Doctrine by fellow Canadian Naomi Klein. She recounted in depressing detail the horrors visited on other nations by American policies—almost always on behalf of business.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - America With all the negative commentary on my “Shutdown” piece, I would just like to clear the air on what I write and why I write it.

Note: Rather than qualify every statement let me make clear that when I say “Americans”, I mean most or the vast majority of American citizens, but not all.

The Warrior`s Brain
PTSD and TBI: What Works and What Doesn`t

TBI presumably can make the soldier/Marine more susceptible to PTSD but the differences seem slight while the overlap seems to be great.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Soldier's brain x-ray My text comes from two sources, the fist from National Council on Disability, titled 'Invisible Wounds' and the second, Newsweek's 'The Warrior's Brain'.

The first was put together by 25 people including two PH.d.'s and one Education Doctor (E.D.). It seems the rest were qualified because they worked for the government! The document was 63 pages long.
