Sep-09-2007 10:19Montana Trip Opens with Lop-Sided Win for WarriorsJessica Matthews leads the Warriors with three goals and six points.
GREAT FALLS, Mont. - A two-game trip to the state of Montana opened well for Corban's women's soccer team, as the Warriors defeated the Lady Argos of Great Falls, 6-1, behind a pair of goals by sophomore Jessica Matthews on Saturday at Siebel Soccer Park. As reported by twelfth-year head coach Marty Ziesemer, Corban got goals from Matthews, senior all-conference Megan Waunch, senior Tosha Wilson, and sisters -- freshman Erin and senior Sara Laughlin. This is the second straight season that Corban has defeated Great Falls, as the Warriors opened the 2006 season with a 4-0 victory over the Lady Argos at the Corban Classic in Salem. The victory marks the Warriors' third victory since 1989 against a Frontier Conference member and pushes Corban overall win-loss mark to 3-5-1 against fellow Region I opponents. So far this season, Matthews leads the Warriors with three goals and six points. Meanwhile, the Laughlin sisters have combined for nine points (4 goals & 1 assist) with the elder Sara having scored two goals and recording the lone assist. With the win, Corban is now 2-3-0 overall, while Great Falls drops to 1-5-0 overall. The Warriors are next in action on Sunday when they continue their Montana trip with a match-up against Carroll College beginning at noon (PST) in Helena.
