CORVALLIS, Ore. - Whitney Goodell was dragged down in the penalty box in the 101st minute as Jodie Taylor converted on the penalty kick to give the Oregon State women’s soccer team a 2-1 win over Idaho in action at Paul Lorenz Field on Sunday.

With the win, Oregon State remained perfect at home while improving to 7-2-1 on the season as Idaho fell to 4-5 with the loss.

“We missed a lot of opportunities at the start; but, I was proud of the way we continued to fight,” head coach Steve Fennah said. “It would have been very easy to get down on ourselves after not connecting on a few opportunities; but, the team continued to work hard and were able to come away with a good result.”

After Oregon State missed a pair of good chances to grab the early lead, Idaho connected on the first goal of the match with just 83 seconds left in the first half as Anna Edmonds scored on a rebound to give the Vandals the lead going into halftime.

Oregon State would tie the game back up early in the second half; however, as Melissa Peck’s third goal of the season knotted the score in the 52nd minute.

On the goal, Peck collected a pass from Rachael Axon and chipped it over the Idaho goalie from 10-yards out to tie the score.

The Beavers would control possession throughout the rest of the half; however, the Idaho defense kept Oregon State off the board as the game would go into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, Oregon State would end the game with a golden goal just 57 seconds into the final overtime.

On a cross in front of the goal, Goodell got dragged down from behind by Idaho’s Kelsey Manning as the referee called for a penalty kick.

Taylor then stepped to the ball and delivered a line drive into the lower right-hand corner of the net to end the contest and give Oregon State its fifth straight win at home to start off the season.

The goal was the 12th of the season for the senior and marked her fourth game-winner of the year.

For the contest, Oregon State out-shot the Vandals, 22-8, as the Beavers had a pair of shots deflect off the crossbar.

The Beavers also held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks on the day.

Ashley Wood picked up the win for Oregon State, recording one save in 101 minutes of work.

Anna Sandman took the loss for Idaho after allowing two goals while making seven saves.

Taylor led the way for Oregon State with seven shots as Peck added five shots in the victory.

Oregon State will return to action on Friday, Oct. 5, when the Beavers host Gonzaga in their final non-conference match of the season at 7:00 p.m.
