CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior Kendra Little and the No. 22 University of Oregon women’s golf comfortably team led the individual and team standings Monday in the opening two rounds of the Giustina Memorial Classic. The Ducks carded the lowest scores of the opening two rounds (296-302-598) and held a 19-stroke advantage over Wyoming (second, 304-313-617), while host Oregon State and Washington State stood third (305-315-620) and fourth (309-312-621), respectively, in the 10-team field. On the par-72, 6,282-yard Trysting Tree Golf Course, Little shot the best round of the field in the afternoon (3-under 69) after she opened the day with a 1-over 73. In her first two tournaments of the season, the Eugene native Little has now shot rounds of 73 or better in all five of her rounds this season. Three of those prior scores were under-par, including a pair of 5-under 68’s and a 2-under 71 at New Mexico two weekends ago. Among other UO results Monday, freshman Cheyenne Hickle followed in fourth place in her collegiate debut (73-78-151), and was followed by sophomore Ashley Edwards (seventh-tie, 71-81-152) who had the lowest first-round score of the field. Other Duck women’s entries included senior Kate Hildahl (12th-tie, 79-76-155) and junior Erica Omild (21st-tie, 79-79-158). Overall on the individual leaderboard, Little held a five-stroke advantage over Wyoming’s Juanita Rico (second, 72-75-147), and Oregon State’s Cara Freeman stood third overall (74-76-15). On the men’s side, Oregon stood third (280-289-569) on the par 72, 7,030-yard course behind Washington State (first, 277-284-561) and Oregon State (second, 282-283-565). Individually, two Duck men ranked top 10 – John Paton (sixth-tie, 69-70-139) and Eugene Wong (eighth, 70-71-141) – while the Cougars’ Trent Sanders led the field by one stroke (68-68-136).
