Arizona Sweeps Oregon State

Oregon State now posts an 8-7, 1-2 Pac-10 record, while Arizona’s record improves to 11-4, 1-2 Pac-10.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Sophomore Lexie Rathgeber set a new career-high with 14 kills on 20 attempts, hitting .651, but the Beavers suffered its second Pac-10 loss in three games (29-31, 26-30, 25-30) to Arizona Thursday evening.

Oregon State now posts an 8-7, 1-2 Pac-10 record, while Arizona’s record improves to 11-4, 1-2 Pac-10.

“It was a very good match by Lexie Rathgeber and good setting by K.C. Walsh,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “But we did not hit well with our outside hitters and a lot of unforced errors on our side of the court. We’ll have to rebound tomorrow night.”

Sophomore Rachel Rourke had 14 kills, while junior libero Ashley Evans had 15 digs, and junior setter K.C. Walsh posted a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs.

The Beavers took charge of game one early, capturing the lead from the first serve before Arizona tied things up at 20 all.

The Beavers fell behind by four late in the game before battling back behind back-to-back blocks by Knitter to tie things up at 29-29.

Oregon State tallied 19 kills, only allowing four errors, to hit .312, led by Rathgeber’s six kills.

Junior Lauren Rinderknecht came off the bench to post a pair of aces and kills, while adding three digs.

Arizona’s Randy Goodenough led the Wildcat offense with 19 kills, while defensively Alanna Resch had 15 digs.

The Beavers conclude their trip to Arizona tomorrow evening when they face the Arizona State Sun Devils at 7:00 p.m.
