Steve Landis named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week

Corban Warriors

PORTLAND, Ore. - After posting the best finish of his career at last week's Pacific Invitational, senior Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week by the league office on Monday.

"Steve did a great job of playing within himself, especially because he has had some physical problems as of late," said sixth-year head coach Ron Sisler. "He battled and that's all you can ask of a player. I was proud of him!"

At last weekend's Pacific Invitational played at Quail Valley Golf Course, Landis finished second overall after shooting a combined 36-hole score of 7-over 151 (76-75) and helped lead Corban to a third place finish as a team. After the opening round, Landis was tied for fifth individually with a 4-over 76 and made up four strokes on the field thanks to a 3-over 75 that included a double eagle on the par-5 third hole to leap into second place at the conclusion of the tournament.

On Friday, Landis stepped back onto the tee and despite battling an illness all day posted a tied for 28th overall at the Linfield Invitational thanks to a 10-over 82. The senior captain went out in 7-over 44 before posting a score of 3-over 38 on the back nine.

For the week, Landis averaged 77.67 strokes per round and finished third on the team in scoring average over the seven-day period.

So far this season, Landis has posted one Top 5 finish, one Top 10 finish, and one Top 20 finish in three events. The fourth-year Warrior is averaging 78.70 strokes per round this season, while carrying a career scoring average of 79.80 in 74 rounds at Corban.

Corban will take the next two weeks off before returning to the links on Monday, October 11th, at the Corban Invitational to be played at Creekside Golf Club beginning at 8:00 a.m.
