Gus Bermudez named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week

Corban Warriors

PORTLAND, Ore. - For the second straight week, the league office announced Monday that junior forward Gus Bermudez (Culver City, Calif.) has named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week following his performance over the weekend against Evergreen and Northwest.

"Gus prides himself in taking advantage of all goal-scoring situations and he has clearly made the most of those opportunities this season," said first-year head coach Paul Meehan.

This past weekend, Bermudez accounted for all three Corban goals in the Warriors' 2-1 loss to Evergreen and 2-1 victory over Northwest.

Against Evergreen, Bermudez tallied his seventh goal of the season in the 89th minute despite the host Geoducks already holding a two-goal lead.

The very next day, Bermudez would score both Corban goals in a one-goal win at Northwest. The first-year Warrior would connect on the game's opening goal in the 37th minute via a throw-in before scoring his team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 44th minute for the eventual game-winner.

So far this season, Bermudez has scored nine goals, handed out two assists, and recorded 20 points in seven games. The junior forward ranked in the Top 15 nationally in six categories that includes shots per game (5th - 4.34), shots on goal per game (6th - 3.43), total goals (10th - 9), goals per game (11th - 1.29), points per game (11th - 2.86), and total points (15th - 20).

Among the leaders in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Bermudez ranks third in both points and goals per game to go along with a Top 25 ranking in assists per game.

In the CCC, Bermudez ranked No. 1 in six offensive categories that includes total shots (38), shots per game (4.34), total points (20), points per game (2.86), total goals scored (9), and goals per game (1.29).

This is the second time this season that Bermudez has earned conference Offensive Player of the Week and third honor for the program.

Corban, who is currently 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play, will return to the field on Friday, October 1st, when it hosts Warner Pacific beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Warrior Field.
