PORTLAND, Ore. - The resilient University of Portland women’s soccer team crept closer to the top of all major national polls after recording a pair of shutout victories last week.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Soccer America Magazine and Soccer Times all elevated Portland one spot to No. 2, while Soccer Buzz Magazine kept the Pilots at No. 3.

For the second consecutive week, Top Drawer Soccer listed Portland as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Stanford, the previous No. 1 in most polls, fell out of the top spot after losing to previously unranked Denver, 1-0, on Sunday.

Santa Clara now holds the top spot in the NSCAA, Soccer America, Soccer Buzz and Soccer Times polls. Top Drawer Soccer lists the Broncos at No. 2.

Portland will host Santa Clara on Sunday, Oct. 28, but the Pilots face a difficult slate leading up to that match.

Portland travels to No. 8 UCLA on Friday and will play at No. 18 Southern California on Sunday.
