McMINNVILLE, Ore. - In a non-conference match Tuesday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium, Linfield handled visiting Cascade of the Cascade Collegiate Conference in three games, winning 30-19, 30-9, 30-23. Linfield (8-5, 3-1 NWC) used a 9-2 run midway though the first game to seal up the win in the opening frame. Cascade played the Wildcats close in the early going, cutting the deficit to 11-10 before Linfield mounted its run with the score 15-13. Cascade (3-8, 1-5 CCC) was unable to get any offense going early in Game 2. Linfield took advantage and jumped out to an 11-2 lead. The ‘Cats converted .565 at the net to the Thunderbirds’ -.062, running away with a 30-9 victory. Both teams played a spirited third stanza. The Wildcats needed a late-game run to hold off the feisty Thunderbirds. Linfield had its high for kills in the final game with 22, propelling the hosts to a 30-23 win. For the match, the Wildcats converted on .386 of their attacks, to the Thunderbirds’ -.009. Cascade committed more attack errors (29) than kills (28). Stephanie Purser handed out 34 assists for Linfield, while Claire Van Meer dished out 24 for Cascade. Defensively, Rachel Fleetwood had nine digs for the Thunderbirds. Her counterpart, Rachael Rahn, aided the Wildcats with 13 digs of her own. The kills were evenly divided for Linfield as three players totaled more than 10 each. Emily Vuylsteke tallied 13 kills, while Kelsey French and Katelyn Baker chipped in 11 each for the night. NEXT Linfield jumps back into NWC action at home Saturday at 7 p.m., when the ‘Cats tangle with Lewis & Clark. Linfield currently stands a game out of first place behind Pacific Lutheran (4-0 NWC).
