PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of Portland women’s soccer team, tired of squeaking out one goal wins, made a statement with a 7-0 victory over Portland State Sunday afternoon before 2,951 fans at Merlo Field.

The Pilots, fresh off the news that they will be without injured stars Rachael and Megan Rapinoe for the rest of the season, put up their highest goal total in over a year and held the Vikings to just one shot in the match.

Sophomore Kendra Chandhoke and freshman Elli Reed each tallied two goals for the Pilots (7-1-0), who pushed their winning streak to four, all by way of shutout.

Senior Angie Woznuk and sophomore Michelle Enyeart added a goal and two assists each, while sophomore Janelle Jacka recorded her first career goal off the bench.

Freshman goalkeeper Hailee DeYoung made her first career start and stopped the only shot she faced to record the shutout for the Pilots.

Portland owned a 25-1 shot advantage over the Vikings (4-4-0), who saw their two-match winning streak come to an end.

“We needed a game like this,” Portland head coach Garrett Smith said. “It was a great day, we scored a bunch of goals, we got a lot of people into the match and were able to rest some tired bodies.”

Portland wasted little time in setting the tone for the game as Reed collected a pass from Woznuk just inside the penalty area and blasted a shot between PSU keeper Rachel Jarvis and the near post in the ninth minute.

It was the first of four goals in a 12 minute span for the host Pilots.

Chandhoke struck next in the 10th minute, lunging for a short cross from Enyeart and toe-poking her attempt top shelf.

Enyeart notched her second goal of the season in the 18th minute, running on a thru ball from Natalie Budge, leaving Jarvis behind and finishing to the open net.

Chandhoke notched her second goal of the game and third of the season with a laser from the 20 yards on the right side off the inside of the left post in the 21st minute.

Woznuk was credited with her second assist of the game and fourth of the season as the Pilots carried a 4-0 lead into intermission.

Reed made it 5-0 in the 51st minute as senior defender Michele Scifo sprung her free with only PSU keeper Cris Lewis to beat.

Reed chipped Lewis and the ball dribble over the goal line for her fourth goal of the season and third in the last two games.

Woznuk blasted a shot from the right side past Lewis in the 78th minute and Jacka was on the finishing end of cross from Enyeart in the 89th minute to cap the scoring.

Enyeart now has a team-leading eight assists in the team’s first eight games and tallied her 50th career point (18g, 14a).

Woznuk’s two helpers gives her 31 career assists, seventh all-time in UP history and one short of Christine Sinclair.

Portland’s seven goals on Sunday eclipsed the team’s total of six in its five previous matches.

Portland announced on Friday that All-American midfielder Megan Rapinoe suffered her second torn ACL in less than a year and will miss the remainder of the season.

The news came shortly after Rachael Rapinoe, twin sister of Megan and Portland’s leading scorer, was also diagnosed with a torn ACL and lost for the season.

The Pilots will look to continue their winning streak when they embark on a tough road trip to Los Angeles next week.

Portland will face No. 6 UCLA on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then take on No. 22 Southern California on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
