SALEM, Ore. - Despite a goal from senior Megan Waunch and sophomore Jessica Matthews, Corban's women's soccer team could not overcome a heart-breaking overtime goal by the Lady Griffins of Westminster and fell, 3-2, Saturday on Warrior Field.

Tallying her fourth goal of the season, Waunch put the Warriors on the board in the 11th minute of the match when she hustled down a ball and curved a shot to the upper left corner of the goal.

The finishing strike was her third in the past two games.

However, Westminster knotted the game at a goal apiece in the 34th minute and took the advantage on the scoreboard in the 36th minute behind back-to-back goals from Maddie Spere.

Alice Hewes assisted on the Lady Griffins' first goal by sending a pass behind the Warrior defense that put Spere's alone with Corban's junior goalkeeper Karyn Allen.

The second goal was unassisted as the ball landed at the feet of Spere's after Allen made a tremendous save to deflect the ball out of the Warrior net.

Down by a mere goal at halftime, Corban pressured and out shot the visiting squad (5-1) in the second half.

After falling short several times, especially toward the end of regulation time, the Warriors' relentless attacks finally proved worthy in the 90th minute.

The team's leading goal scorer, Matthews, notched the great equalizer after collecting a pass from senior Sara Laughlin and slotting the ball to the lower right corner of the goal past the Lady Griffins' net-minder, Kelsey Allen.

In the 96th minute and first overtime period, Westminster snatched victory from the host Warriors as a brilliant punch save by the Warriors' Allen returned to Kate Stoner after she took a corner kick.

Stoner took a touch near the end line and bent a shot to the far post for the golden goal.

Allen played the entire 90 minutes between the pipes for Corban and recorded a pair of saves. On the other hand, Westminster's Allen recorded a game-high 6 saves.

The loss drops Corban to 4-6-0 overall, though they remain 2-1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Meanwhile, their non-conference opponents from Westminster improve their overall record to 7-3-1.

The Warriors are next in action against non-conference and NCAA Division II opponent, Western Oregon University, on Tuesday, September 25th, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Sparks Field on the campus of Willamette University.
