MISSOULA, Mont. - The Oregon State women’s soccer team opened up its appearance at the Montana Nike Cup with a 3-3 tie against Boise State Friday.

The Beavers scored two goals in the second half to send the match to overtime, where neither team could score in the final two periods.

Jodie Taylor scored her 10th goal of the season at the 83rd minute on an assist from Courtney Wetzel.

Taylor’s goal effectively sent the match into double overtime, where the Beavers outshot Boise State, 6-3 – including 5-2 in the second overtime – but could not convert for the victory.

"It was a good comeback," Oregon State head coach Steve Fennah said. "Obviously, we put ourselves in a hole we shouldn't have been in. But we stayed focused and were able to get those late goals. Down the road, I'm sure we'll be able to look at this match as a stepping point in our season."

Down 3-1 at the half, Whitney Goodell started Oregon State’s (5-1-1 overall) comeback at the 69th minute.

Goodell converted on her second goal of the season after finding a loose ball after a corner kick. The goal brought Oregon State to a one goal deficit.

Boise State (3-3-1) jumped out to a quick two-goal lead in the first 12 minutes of the match. Shannon Saxton scored at the ninth minute, followed by Cheyenne Jones less than three minutes later.

The Beavers started their first comeback of the game when Holly Benson found the back of the net for the first time this season. She scored at the 18th minute on a header off a Rachael Axon corner kick.

The Broncos, however, could not be held quiet for the rest of the half. Saxton scored her second goal of the match at the 38th minute to give Boise State a 3-1 lead entering halftime.

Although the Beavers were able to pepper the Boise State net in the two overtimes, the team could not convert on a game-winning goal.

Taylor was able to get a shot on goal in the final 20 seconds, but Boise State’s Jennifer Burns was able to make the save.

Ashley Wood played the whole game for the Beavers, making two saves. She is now 5-1-1 this season.

Oregon State outshot Boise State, 22-11, led by Taylor, who had seven shots, including four on goal. Goodell also had four shots, including her second-half goal.

The Beavers continue their trip to Missoula with an 11 a.m. PT contest Sunday against Detroit-Mercy.
