SEATTLE, Wash. - Junior Jennifer Macias (Hermiston, Ore.) led the Oregon State cross country team to a second place finish at the 18th Annual Sundodger Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Beavers came in second behind No. 1 Washington, but defeated six other teams with 70 points. Oregon State held off third place Western Washington by 13 points.

“We had a good day today,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “The weather was kind of inclement with rain and mud. Overall I’m pleased and the runners had a good race. We had a couple of hard weeks of training, so we went in a little tired, but we raced pretty hard today. So I’m pleased with it.

Macias finished 13th overall in 21:48.75 with junior Abby Chesimet (Astoria, Ore.) close behind in 14th, finishing in 21:49.25. Freshman Sandra Martinez (Yakima, Wash.) came in 16th, redshirt sophomore Laura Carlyle (Kelowna, British Columbia) finished 19th and junior Hannah Soza-Hodgkinson (Forest Ranch, Calif.) rounded out the scoring runners with a 22nd place finish.

Washington’s Kendra Schaaf finished first in a time of 19:49.12.

The second place finish marks the highest the Beavers have placed at the Sundodger Invitational. Last season, Oregon State finished third.
