Sep-16-2006 17:24Revenge is Sweet as Ducks Beat Sooners, 34-33Kevin Hays Salem-News.com SPORTSDucks quarterback Dennis Dixon engineers two scoring drives in the final 1:09, and the defense blocks a last second game-winning field goal attempt to preserve the victory.
EUGENE - Oregon Quarterback Dennis Dixon threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another, while running back Jonathan Stewart rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown, and receiver Jaison Williams caught 9 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown, as the #18 ranked Oregon Ducks overcame four turnovers to beat the visiting #15 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 34-33 Saturday at Autzen Stadium. Oregon (3-0), was trailing 33-20 with 3:12 left in the fourth, but Dixon’s 16 yard TD run cut the Sooners (2-1) lead to 33-27. The Ducks, kept fighting, and took the lead with :45 left on the clock when Dixon hit Brian Paysinger with 23 yard TD pass for the games final score. Matt Evensen kickoff was returned by Oklahoma’s Reggie Smith for 54 yards to the Oregon 27, but Garrett Hartley’s 44-yard game-winning field goal attempt was blocked by Oregon preserving victory. Oklahoma star running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 213 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Paul Thompson threw for 173 yards and a touchdown. The Ducks accumulated 521 yards of total offense, compared to the Sooners 380. The Ducks next play at Pac-10 foe Arizona State on September 30th. Game time has not yet been announced.

You are correct. On that day OU played like a team lucky to be in the top 25. UO played above themselves cause they were tired of getting their butt beat by OU. But not like a top ten team that's for sure. So tell me, does crow taste alot like duck. Sure hope the Beav's don't knock ya'll out of the top 25 tommorrow. Sorry, as long as were keeping it real. Yes I do. Tina September 19, 2006 9:02 pm There will always be controversial plays in any given game. The refs make the calls on the spot. If there is a recall every time someone complains, there would be no end to it. Both teams played well and the better team won. Go Ducks! gordon OU September 19, 2006 1:34 pm As for the article above, any writer can manipulate stats and use words to create an image of the game. That is obviously for the people who did not watch the game. Look, any football fan with a knowledge of the game knows that he missed the call badly. He clearly admitted it to the press. He obviously feels regret. Knowing the fact that the he undoubtedly made the wrong call in hind sight has to be killing him. He is one of God's children and is imperfect as we all are. He needs prayer. Unfortunately some Sooner fans cant just let it go. I'm a huge Sooner and college football fan. Sure, I was absolutely furious Saturday and definately overreacted. But it is just football and not life. br September 19, 2006 9:03 am Sooners sound like Dems whining about voting machine failure instead of focusing on why they actually lost....perhaps becuase of stoops' bonehead run up the middle with no timeouts? True Sooner Fan September 18, 2006 11:14 pm It's kind of like fighting a forest fire, by yourself. Sooner's clearly had the game, until the official's put on their PAC-10 pads. You say Oregon had the tough job of scoring 2 TD's, you say OU Defense just gave up or looked weak. I will tell you right now, those guys didn't have a chance (OU). No matter what they did (it's obvious) the ref's were gonna through a flag. How could they have stopped them with this action? the last word September 18, 2006 6:49 pm godd teams overcome bad calls.Oregon had to score twice and they did. Oregon had to prevent the last minute field goal attempt and they did. The Ducks converted on their three do-or-die opportunities and the Sooners failed on all three. The better team won Saturday. The W goes to Oregon. Duck Believer September 18, 2006 6:09 pm It is kinda ironic. The Ducks should have won the bowl game and the Sooners should have won on Saturday. I don't really know what to say other than even as a Duck fan it was obvious that a Duck touched the ball before 10 yards. Also, it was obvious that the ball was tipped on the pass. I think that the reason why the officials gave Oregon the ball after the onsides is that the officials saw a Oregon player fall on the ball first and awarded the ball right away. The Oregon player was down and they called it right away. It may have been pretty fast. If they are going to use instant replay, it would be interesting to find out if they used it to determine who got the ball. Go Ducks. Kevin September 18, 2006 5:00 pm It's sad that Oregon fans actually consider this a win. No integrity. And this article is a joke. You actually call this "REVENGE" and leave out the onside kick fiasco all together? You don't even mention that Oregon recovered a on side kick in order to win the game. It seems worth mentioning even if you leave out the part about the bad call by the officials. Are you kidding me? The only way Oregon could ever beat Oklahoma is with a little help from their friends...the officials. Revenge isn't sweet Salem-News.com, Revenge can be paid for. jeff September 18, 2006 3:30 pm quite simply highway robbery! stunned September 18, 2006 8:05 am How much did Nike have to pay for this win? Guess it was money well spent. Adding comments to these stories has been disabled. View the current sports stories Salem-News Sports | | |
