PORTLAND, Ore. - Sophomore Michelle Enyeart scored a goal and added an assist as the fourth-ranked Portland Pilots shutout the Kansas Jayhawks 2-0 at the Nike Invitational Friday night at Merlo Field. Sophomore Kendra Chandhoke also scored for Portland, which improves to 4-1-0 on the season. UP sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Davis made three saves on the night to record her first shutout as a Pilot. Chandhoke, who replaced the injured Rachael Rapinoe in Portland’s starting line up, scored the first goal of the night with a strike in the 25th minute. Enyeart initiated the play by making a run down the right side of the field, stopping just short of the endline. When KU’s keeper Colleen Quinn came out to challenge Enyeart, she fed an unmarked Chandhoke in the middle of the box. Chandhoke easily finished into the open net for her first strike this season. It’s the sixth assist this fall for Enyeart, who matches last year’s season total. Enyeart then found the back of the net in the 39th minute to give Portland the 2-nil lead. Senior Angie Woznuk, who gained possession at the top of the Kansas 18-yard box, fed Enyeart in the middle of the field. Enyeart then ripped a low shot just inside the right post. It’s her first strike of the season and Woznuk’s first assist. After the brake, Kansas (0-4-1) had a couple of good looks at the UP frame, but Davis made a handful of saves to preserve the shutout. Portland’s best look in the second half came with eight minutes left on the clock. Senior Kelli Cronkrite sent a frozen rope towards the KU frame from 35 yards out. Quinn was forced to make a diving, one-handed save. Portland outshot Kansas 18-6 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. 12 of Portland’s shots were on goal, with Quinn making 10 saves. Four Pilots had at least three shots on the night. The game marked the first match without Rachael Rapinoe for Portland. Rapinoe tore her left ACL last Sunday against Purdue in Seattle, Wash. In the Nike Invitational’s first game, Washington topped Yale 2-1 Friday afternoon. The invitational concludes on Sunday with a pair of matches. Washington faces Kansas at 10:30 a.m. before the Pilots battle Yale at 1:00 p.m. at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex.
