PORTLAND, Ore. - Sophomore Jessica Matthews scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, as Corban's women's soccer team opened its 2007 Cascade Collegiate Conference season with a 1-0 victory on Friday over the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade.

For the eighteenth consecutive game dating back to 1989, the Warrior women's soccer program walked away from a game against Cascade with a win.

Matthews took a pass in the eighth minute from reigning NAIA Region I and Cascade Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week, senior Sara Laughlin and tapped a five-yard shot into the back of the net for the game's lone score.

In a game that was dominated by Corban, Matthews' first half goal stood up to be the game-winner as junior goalkeeper Karyn Allen needed to make a mere three saves en route to picking up her first shutout of the season.

As a team, the Warriors out-shot their opponent, 12-5, including 7-3 in shots on goal.

Matthews led all players with three shots (all on goal), as fellow sophomore Marissa Walter tallied a pair shots, including one on goal.

Cascade's net-minder Valerie Perez recorded a game-high six saves, while Desirae Pino led the Lady Thunderbirds with a pair of shots.

With the win, Corban improves to 3-4-0 overall, 1-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Meanwhile, Cascade falls to 2-3-1 overall, 0-1-0 in CCC action.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, September 15th, against the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Portland.
