CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former Oregon State standout Derek Anderson has been named the starting quarterback for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns for their Sunday matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The move follows the trade of Browns quarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 6th round draft pick. Anderson played at Oregon State from 2001-2004, setting records for both career passing yards with 11,249 and passing touchdowns with 79. He also holds the record for consecutive completions for the Browns with 13 straight against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 17, 2006. Anderson was drafted by the Ravens in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft. He was released by Baltimore on September 20, 2005 and signed by the Browns the next day. Anderson saw action in five games in the 2006 season, including three starts until a shoulder injury kept him out of the season finale. Anderson is one of two Oregon State quarterbacks in the NFL, two year starter Matt Moore is currently playing for the Carolina Panthers. Anderson will be opposed in his fourth career NFL start by two Oregon State alumni in wide receivers Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh of the Bengals.
