Concordia Downs Corban, 3-1

After eight matches this season, Corban finds itself at 4-4 overall, 2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

SALEM, Ore. - Despite four different players recording 10-or-more kills, Corban's women's volleyball team dropped its opening home match of the season, 3-1 (15-30, 26-30, 30-27, 17-30), to the Cavaliers of Concordia Tuesday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Junior Rashelle Davenport and senior Ashley Lange led the Warriors with 13 kills each, while freshman Kristen Eiler and junior Chelsea Reeher added 12 and 10 kills respectively.

In a battle of two undefeated teams in conference play, the visiting Cavaliers of Concordia came out firing on all cylinders in the opening game and rolled to a 30-15 win.

Game #2 was a completely different story, as Concordia held to an slight advantage throughout most of the game but could not get rid of the pesky Warriors.

Corban clawed its way back into the game late, but could not overcome the lead that the visiting Cavs had and dropped the second game, 30-27, heading into the ten minute break.

In the third game, Corban came out looking like a different team than the previous two games as the Warriors grabbed a commanding lead and then hung on for the three-point win, 30-27.

In the fourth and final game, things began to swing Concordia's way as the Cavaliers grabbed an insurmountable six-point lead (10-4) early and then increased it to ten points (20-10).

In rallying scoring, Corban had a tough uphill climb ahead of them and could not get over the proverbial hump that allowed Concordia to secure the match in four games thanks to a 30-17 victory in the closing game.

With the quartet of Warriors combining for 48 of Corban's 53 kills, sophomore Amy Thompson was busy as the 5-foot-6 setter handed out a match-high 45 assists while recording one of the Warriors' three double-doubles with 11 digs.

Junior Margo Wyatt anchored Corban's back line with a team-high 28 digs, while Davenport and Reeher added 15 and 12 digs respectively.

Concordia was led by Lindsey Fryer's match-high 22 kills, while Erika Doremus and Nancy Burrows added 12 and 9 kills respectively.

Lauren Richards led the Cavaliers with a team-high 40 assists, while Rachel Cotter manned Concordia's back row with a match-high 30 digs.

After eight matches this season, Corban finds itself at 4-4 overall, 2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Meanwhile, Concordia remains unbeaten in conference action and improves to 5-4 overall, 3-0 in CCC action.

The Warriors take a mini break from conference play on Thursday, September 13th, when Corban host Walla Walla College beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
