SALEM, Ore. - In the 2nd annual FAN-atic Soccer Under the Lights game, Corban's men's soccer team opened the Cascade Collegiate Conference season with a victory over Northwest Christian, 6-0, behind a pair of second half goals by freshman Ayouba Moussa. After a scoreless first 36-plus minutes, Corban senior Joshua Crain teamed with fellow senior Caleb Louvier on a pair of goals in just over 90 seconds. The first goal came when Louvier laid a ball off to an on-coming Crain, who blasted a shot from 15 yards out into the back of the net. Ninety-three seconds later, the senior duo hooked up again when Louvier's initial shot ricocheted off Northwest Christian's keeper onto an awaiting Crain, who poked the ball into the goal for his second score of the night and season. The Warriors hung onto their two goal lead heading into halftime and then began the onslaught of goals fifteen seconds into the second half. Louvier netted his third goal of the season off an assist by Moussa before the crowd had a chance to settle back into their seats. Moussa sent a through ball onto Louvier, who was coming up the middle of the field, before the 5-foot-10 senior co-captain rocketed a shot from 18 yards out into the back of the net. Less than twenty minutes later, freshman Nathan Hickok got into the scoring action when he took a pass from senior Andrew Brown. Brown began the action with a soft touch pass to Hickok, who was coming up the far sideline, before the 5-foot-10 freshman lofted a shot towards the upper left corner of the net. Hickok's shot eluded the out-stretched arms of Northwest Christian's net-minder Cuyler Zeigler and found the back of the net for his first career goal as a Warrior. Eleven minutes later, Moussa got the crowd going with his first career goal while donning the navy and gold when he teamed with fellow freshman Collin Box and Louvier. Louvier began the play by taking the ball at midfield, dribbling between numerous defenders, and then dropping a pass off to Box, who was coming up the near sideline. Box then without hesitation sent a crossing pass onto the awaiting head of Moussa, who headed the ball past NCC's keeper and into the back of the net. Less than ten minutes later, Moussa capped the night's scoring when he took a combo pass from junior Justin Lucia and freshman Aaron Paulson. Paulson started the action by taking the ball away from an attacking NCC player and advancing up past midfield before dropping a pass off to Lucia. Lucia then one-timed a pass to Moussa, who had already beaten his defender before rifling his fifth shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the night. Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Franklin played the first 73 minutes in goal for Corban and recorded three saves before being relieved by junior net-minder James DelCastillo for the final 17 minutes. On the opposite side of the field, Zeigler recorded a game-high 9 saves for the Beacons. Corban out-shot Northwest Christian, 31-4, including 15-3 in shots on goal. Louvier led the Warriors with six shots, while Tucker Kellar paced Northwest Christian with a pair of shots. With the win, Corban improves to 2-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest Christian opens its season 0-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 in CCC action. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, September 7th, when they take part in the opening game of the Cougar Classic against GSAC power and nationally-ranked Westmont College beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer Complex on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
