PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland State's sophomore middle blocker Erica Jepsen has been named the Big Sky Conference's Volleyball Player of the Week.

This is Jepsen's first Player of the Week honor and the second for Portland State this season (Dominique Fradella, Aug. 27).

Although the Vikings only had one match last week, Jepsen made the most of it. The sophomore had an incredible match against number three in the Big Sky standings, Eastern Washington.

Jepsen hammered down 15 kills in the three-game match on only 19 total attacks. She did not have a single error and only had four attacks that did not result in a kill.

The 6'0 sophomore had a .789 hitting percentage, the single highest hitting percentage of any player in the Big Sky this year and the second-highest hitting percentage in Portland State history.

"I am very proud of Erica," said head coach Michael Seemann. "We have been working hard to expand her role on the offensive side of the ball and she showed us what she is capable of. It was great to see her hard work payoff."

Jepsen helped lead the Vikings to a .430 hitting percentage and only the third victory over Eastern Washington since joining the Big Sky in 1996. She also totaled two blocks. Jepsen shared this week's honors with Northern Arizona's Kim Babcock.

Jepsen is native to Kennewick, Washington and is the daughter of Dave and Laura Jepsen.
