PORTLAND, Ore. - Chelsea Wagner has been named the Director of Basketball Operations for Portland State women’s basketball, first-year head coach Sherri Murrell announced Tuesday. Wagner recently completed her playing career at Oregon during the 2005-06 season, earning honorable mention All-Pacific 10 Conference honors. Her duties with the Vikings will include film editing, coordinator for community and booster relations, team travel and other administrative duties. “I am excited to have Chelsea joins us,” Murrell said. “She is a positive and enthusiastic person, who will be a great influence on our student-athletes. Chelsea is an up-and-coming young coach.” A native of Eugene, Ore., Wagner played three seasons for the Ducks. In addition to earning honorable mention all-conference accolades, she was the team’s MVP and ranked third in the Pac-10 in three-point field goal percentage. Wagner set a McArthur Court record when she sank eight treys in a home victory over Arizona on Feb. 9, 2006. Wagner began her collegiate career at Hawaii, where she appeared in 29 games, drawing 14 starts, as a freshman in 2001-02. She then transferred to Oregon the following season. At Springfield High School, Wagner was a Street & Smith honorable mention All-America selection both her junior and senior seasons. She capped her stellar prep career by being named the Oregon State Player of the Year by both The Oregonian and USA Today. Following her playing career, Wagner served as the camp coordinator for the Northwest Christian College Women’s Basketball Camp this past summer. She has also served as a personal coach for individual high school players, and worked camps at both the University of Oregon and the United State Basketball Academy. Wagner, 24, was born Feb. 24, 1983 in Eugene. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology in June, 2006.
