Oct-06-2007 06:52Eastern Oregon Holds Off Corban in Four GamesSalem-News.com SPORTSWith the loss, Corban drops below .500 at 7-8 and moves to 5-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
SALEM, Ore. - Junior libero Margo Wyatt recorded a match-high 41 digs, but Corban's women's volleyball team fell to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon, 3-1 (27-30, 24-30, 30-27, 28-30), on Friday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center to begin the athletic action during alumni weekend. With her total this evening, Wyatt moves into a tie for 3rd all-time in digs in a single match with former Warrior and current assistant coach Becky Horn. Earlier this season, Wyatt moved into 2nd all alone when she recorded 42 digs against first-year conference member Northwest Christian on September 15th. This is the sixth time this season that Wyatt has recorded 25-or-more digs in a match. Along with Wyatt's performance from the back row, fellow junior Chelsea Reeher recorded a match-high 20 kills to lead Corban's offensive attack. Senior Ashley Lange and a duo of Warriors -- junior Rashelle Davenport and freshman Teri Braun -- also registered 11 and 10 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Amy Thompson handed out a match-high 50 assists for Corban to extend her streak of 50-or-more to two straight matches, while giving her fourth matches this season with 50-or-more dimes. On the defensive side of the net, the Warriors accounted for 6.0 total blocks, as Braun led the charge with five (1 solo, 4 assist). Eastern Oregon was led by Grace Deboodt, who was a high school teammate of Corban's Reeher, with a team-high 19 kills, while Haley McEnroe and Chelsey Lally added 17 and 8 kills respectively. Alissa Clinton and Chelsea Herron split time at the setter position for the Mountaineers and handed out 28 and 26 assists respectively, while Sareena Simpson anchored Eastern Oregon's back line with a team-high 30 digs. EOU's Cathy Savage registered a match-high 11 assist blocks, while the Mountaineers combined to record 13.0 blocks (1 solo, 24 assist). With the loss, Corban drops below .500 at 7-8 and moves to 5-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Eastern Oregon moves to 8-6 overall, 6-3 in CCC action. The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, October 6th, when they host the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Lady 'Yotes of Albertson beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. NOTE: During the ten-minute break between Game #2 and #3, Corban's Department of Athletics will be honoring the 10-year anniversary of the 1997 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship team. Current first-year head coach Heather Dunn was a sophomore on the best team to date in Warrior volleyball history, as then-Western Baptist went 31-10 overall (12-4 in CCC play) and added the Cascade Collegiate Conference post-season tournament to its list of accomplishments that season.
