TACOMA, Wash. - The Oregon State women's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of competition Monday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club.
The Beavers shot an 18-over 306 at the par-72, 6,078-yard course that includes 15 teams, seven of which hail from the Pacific-10 Conference. Washington is the official host and has two teams in the tournament.
"We played well today with the exception of managing our short game to capitalize on good approach shots," Oregon State women’s head coach Risë Alexander said. "We can definitely score better tomorrow with improvement in our chipping and putting. We are excited to be playing in this event on such a great golf course."
Freshman Seshia Telles led the Beavers with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 24th overall, while three Oregon State golfers – junior Whitney French, freshman Lauren Sewell and sophomore Chelsey Lind – all shot a 5-over 77 to tie for 36th. Lind had her first career eagle on the 16h hole.
California shot a 4-under 284 to lead the tournament, followed by USC at 285 and Washington at 293. Emily Childs and Joanne Lee of California and Sophia Popov of USC are the top individuals with a 3-under 68.
