CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - The Oregon State men's golf team posted its best round of the Cabo Collegiate, a 4-under 284 on Monday, to finish in third place at the tournament held at the Querencia Los Cabos Golf Club. "The guys came ready to play today and were ready make a move up the leaderboad," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "With Morten leading the way, we played well and had the second-best round of the day. Unfortunately, we gave a few shots away at the end or we would have finished second. I know the team is disappointed in our finish."
The Beavers had par or better rounds from junior Morten Madsen (69), junior Alex Moore (72), freshman David Fink (71) and junior Jonnie Motomochi (72) at the par-72, 7,070-yard course to finish a stroke behind the Houston (876). Arkansas ran away with team honors with a 10-under 854. Madsen (74-74-69--217) and Motomochi (77-78-72--227) had their best rounds of the tournament on the final day to finish 11th and tied for 34th, respectively. Moore (75-71-72--218) was consistent throughout the tournament to finish tied for 12th, while Fink (71-79-71--221) responded after a tough second round for his second sub-par round. "I think this finish will motivate the team to work even harder and be ready in two weeks for California," Reehoorn said. "The upside is we still haven't played anywhere near our best. We just have to keep getting better each day and, at the end of the season, we will be where we want." The Beavers return to action Oct. 18-19 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
