Oct-24-2007 05:50Corban's Allen Earns Third Conference & Regional Player of the WeekSalem-News.com SPORTSHeading into Wednesday's conference tournament semifinal match up with Oregon Tech, Corban is 10-8-0 overall, 7-3-0 in conference play.
SALEM, Ore. - For the third time this season, Corban junior goalkeeper Karyn Allen has been named Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA Region I Defensive Player of the Week thanks to performance against Warner Pacific in helping Corban advance to the post-season tournament. Last Wednesday, the 5-foot-8 net-minder played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Warriors and posted a shut-out victory over fellow conference member Warner Pacific en route to helping the Warriors capture the post-season tournament's No. 2-seed and a first-round bye. Allen faced seven shots (six on goal) and recorded a team-best four saves en route to posting her team-leading fifth shut out of the season. In the first half, Allen did not have to work very hard as Warner Pacific only recorded one shot that went wide left. The second half was a completely different story as Allen's goal keeping skills were put to the test as the visiting Knights were able to register all six shots on goal in the final 45 minutes. Allen was tested on two different occasions, as she was beat on the play by a Warner Pacific attacking offensive player and then bailed out by a fellow Corban teammate, who worked as the final wall of defense for the Warriors en route to securing that the visiting Knights would not score. "Karyn has been a big addition to our team this season," said twelfth head coach Marty Ziesemer. "To win this award for the third time this season is amazing and unheard of. She has worked hard all year and it is beginning to show when we need her the most." This is the fifth time this season that a member of the Corban women's soccer program has been named either Offensive or Defensive Players of the Week in the conference. Heading into Wednesday's conference tournament semifinal match up with Oregon Tech, Corban is 10-8-0 overall, 7-3-0 in conference play. The Warriors and Hustlin' Owls will face-off at Sparks Field on the campus of Willamette University beginning at 7:00 p.m. to decide one of two spots in the conference tournament championship game on Saturday, October 27th.
