Salem-News.com Sports

PORTLAND, Ore. - he NAIA’s top-ranked team scored a goal in each half to turn away Warner Pacific 2-0 in Cascade Conference women’s soccer action at David Douglas High School today.

The game got underway under overcast skies and a light rain. Kelton McFadden put the visiting Cavaliers on the board in the 9th minute with a well placed shot from the 18 yard line. From there the Knights tightened up the defense and allowed just one more shot on goal in the half.

The best chance for WP came late in the first period by way of a Kelly Troyer free kick that was initially saved by CU keeper Tori Talbutt, but dropped and pinballed around in the box before being cleared away.

Concordia pressed forward in the second half for 13 shots, but some quality goalkeeping by WP’s Nikita Rivera kept the Cavs in check. Alex Thomas did break free in the 78th minute however, and converted a breakaway to give Concordia the final 2-0 margin.

Concordia remains unbeaten in 2010 with a 13-0-2 record and 6-0-1 in CCC play. Warner Pacific drops to 2-10-2 and 1-6-0.
