CORVALLIS, Ore. - For the second consecutive contest, the Oregon State women’s soccer team would fall in double overtime as Arizona State rallied to defeat the Beavers, 2-1, in action at Lorenz Field on Sunday. The loss drops Oregon State to 7-7-1 overall, 0-4-0 in conference play, as Arizona State improves to 9-6-0, 3-1-0 on the season, with the win. Oregon State would manage to get on the board first as Whitney Goodell connected early to give the Beavers the lead. In the sixth minute, Goodell corralled a pass from Jodie Taylor and sent an 18-yard shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net for her third goal of the season to give the Beavers the lead. The score would remain the same until the 65th minute as Arizona State managed to tie the game. Off an attempted clear by the Oregon State defense, Alexandra Elston would find the back of the net for the Sun Devils to tie the score with just under 25 minutes remaining. Neither team was able to get on the board for the rest of regulation as the match headed into overtime as the Beavers were forced to play the extra stanzas short-handed due to a red card issued to Taylor towards the end of regulation. Despite playing a woman down, Oregon State created the first good scoring opportunity of overtime. On a long pass forward, Goodell created a one-on-one with the Arizona State keeper; however, her shot was deflected wide as the score remained tied. With a little less than seven minutes remaining, Arizona State would manage to claim the win as the Sun Devils converted on a corner kick. On the corner by Kylla Sjoman, Laura Niblett crossed the ball over to Elston, who managed to find the back of the net for the second time on the day as her goal ended the contest in the 104th minute. Caitlin Seeley made six saves in the loss for the Beavers as Briana Silvestri recorded four stops for the Sun Devils to pick up the win. Oregon State will return to action on Friday, Oct. 26, as the Beavers travel to Seattle, Wash., to face Washington at 7 p.m.
