NEWBERG, Ore. - Willamette University and George Fox University played 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods on their way to a 0-0 tie on Sunday, Oct. 17, as both teams kept the opposition off the scoreboard. Willamette moved to 3-8-3 overall, 1-6-2 in the NWC. George Fox went to 0-10-2 on the season, including 0-8-1 in the NWC. The Bearcats held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks over the Bruins, but couldn't turn any of the restarts into a goal. Otherwise, the offensive statistics were nearly even, as Willamette amassed 16 total shots with four shots on goal, while George Fox took 15 shots, including three shots on goal. Even so, WU claimed a statistical edge in overtime. The Bearcats produced two shots in each of the extra sessions, including a pair of shots on goal in the second overtime, forcing Bruin goalkeeper Elliott Davis to make two saves. WU outshot GFU, 4-1, during the overtime periods. Brandon Shiluk (Fr., MF/F, Castro Valley, CA/Castro Valley HS) took both of Willamette's shots on goal in the final overtime. He also had the game's first shot on goal, a header 39 seconds into the contest that Davis kept out of the net. Willamette's goalkeeper, Eben Hellekson (Sr., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School), registered three saves to record the shutout. Davis accumulated four saves for George Fox. Both goalies played all 110 minutes. Shiluk took four shots overall for the Bearcats. Also earning four shots each were Trevor Jensen (Fr., MF, Chula Vista, CA/Bonita Vista HS) and Mike McGrew (So., MF, Portland, OR/Grant HS). Christian Reed led GFU with five shots, including one shot on goal. The Bearcats will return to Salem, Ore., for a pair of home matches next weekend. WU will take on the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2:30 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats will host Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday, Oct. 24, also at 2:30 p.m.
