CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women’s swim team is in second place after concluding its first day of competition of the season Friday, at the University of the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif. “This was a pretty outstanding first showing four our team,” Oregon State head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “We had a very good day but we still have some work to do if we want to walk away with the win tomorrow.” Senior Anna Crandall took home wins in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.22 and the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.15. The Oregon State relay team of Jenni Dole, Rachel O’Brien, Brittney Iverson and Crandall won the 200 medley relay (1:45.9) and Dole, Arianna Gorenc, Iverson, and Crandall won the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.05) and earned the Beavers 80 team points in the two events. Oregon State sits in second place behind BYU (417) with 407.5 points after BYU picked up 69 points on the Beavers in the final event of the day. “The freshman came out today and showed that they were for real,” Liebowitz said. “They all swam really well.” Out of the 13 events throughout the day 12 Beavers finished in the top-5 in any event. Seven newcomers scored points for the Beavers on the day. The University of the Pacific Invitational concludes Saturday with another full day of competition with the Beavers going into the day only 5.5 overall points behind the Cougars of BYU.
