NEWBERG, Ore. - Twin sisters Lauren and Ashley Kanda teamed up for three goals and two assists in the first half as the visiting Pacific University Boxers jumped out to a huge lead and coasted to a 3-0 win over the George Fox University Bruins in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon here at Morse Field. Lauren Kanda got the Boxers going with an unassisted goal at 23:25. After taking a throw-in near the right sideline, she dribbled through two George Fox defenders into the penalty box and sent a shot in from 15 yards away that was blocked by Bruin keeper Autumn Van Meter but not controlled, and the ball slipped through her hands and into the net. The Boxers picked up their second score at 32:42 when Lauren Kanda sent a ball through from just outside the box to Ashley Kanda coming into the box on the right, and Ashley finished from 10 yards out. The two reversed passer-to-scorer roles on Pacific’s final goal at 41:24 on an almost-identical play after Ashley Kanda intercepted a Bruin clear attempt about 10 yards outside the box. The Boxers made the most of their rare scoring opportunities, connecting three times on only four shots on goal. The Bruins out-shot the Boxers overall 19-9, including an 11-3 margin in the second half as Pacific concentrated on defending its big lead, and had 11 shots on goal but could never punch one across. Pacific keeper Brittany Hartmann collected 11 saves in posting her fourth shutout of the season. The Bruins also had six corner kick attempts to one for the Boxers. George Fox (6-7, NWC 3-6) visits Willamette University Saturday while Pacific (5-6-2, NWC 4-4-1) hosts Linfield College Sunday. Both are conference games starting at 12:00 noon.
