LOS ANGELES - Lauren Cheney scored twice to lead top-ranked UCLA past Oregon 3-0 Sunday at Drake Stadium.

The Bruins outshot Oregon 16-5 in raising their record to 9-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Pac-10. The Ducks fell to 7-6 on the season, 0-2 in league play.

The teams were even through the first 23 minutes before Cheney scored off a give-and-go from Danesha Adams at the 23:49 mark.

Caitlin Mac Kechnie made it 2-0 in the 31st minute off an assist from Cheney.

Cheney then scored her Pac-10 leading 13th goal of the season just four minutes into the second half off another assist from Adams.

"They have so many weapons and we were playing a little short handed, so our options were somewhat limited," said Oregon coach Tara Erickson. "UCLA is very good and losing at the No. 1 team certainly isn’t the end of the world, but there were things we could have done better."

Goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield tied a season high by making six saves for Oregon.

"Jessie had a nice game and our defenders did a good job of minimalizing the damage," said Erickson. "And we kept battling and trying to create things, which is a good sign."

Five different players attempted a shot for the Ducks: Dani Oster, Jessica Goodell, Teresa Bowns, Jen Stoltenberg and Kirstie Kuhns.

Last season, Oregon upset the Bruins 2-1 in double-overtime.

"These weren’t must-win games this weekend," said Erickson. " But now the games coming up at home are must-win games. Hopefully we’ll be more healthy and ready to play well at home."

The Ducks return to Pape’ Field looking to rebound when they host Arizona State on Friday and Arizona on Sunday.
