LOS ANGELES - The Oregon State volleyball team ended an 18-game, six match losing streak as it defeated the No. 4 UCLA Bruins 3-2 at Pauley Pavilion Friday evening in front of a crowd of 723.

Games scores were 31-29, 16-30, 30-27, 17-30, 15-13. The Beavers improve their overall record to 9-11, 2-6 Pac-10, while the Bruins drop their third overall match, second in conference play (15-3, 5-2 Pac-10).

“It was a big win, the first time since 2000 that Oregon State has defeated UCLA at home,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “Camilla Ah-Hoy did a good job in her first start of the season; she really went the distance. And I thought Lauren Rinderknecht did a good job coming off of the bench.”

In her first start of the season, sophomore setter Camilla Ah-Hoy directed the Oregon State offense, earning her third career double-double, first of the 2007 season, with 38 assists and a new career-high 17 digs.

Sophomore Rachel Rourke recorded her eighth 20-plus kills match of the season, third in conference play, with 25 total, marking the only Oregon State player in double-digits for kills.

And junior Ashley Evans recorded her first 30-plus digs match with 32, setting the fourth best single match record in school history.

The Beavers took the first point of game one off a kill from Knitter to set the tone.

The team continued to hold the momentum, building the lead up to as many as four at the 8-4 mark.

The Bruins battled back to tie things up at 12 all, taking three one-point leads with the teams tying things up six times by 18-18.

UCLA took its first two-point lead, reaching 20 first and continuing to hold the lead until Oregon State tied things up at 24 all forcing the Bruins to call a timeout.

Two back-to-back blocks helped the Beavers find their rhythm and put the team three points away from winning the game prompting UCLA to burn its second timeout.

Oregon State used its second timeout as the Bruins tied things up at 27-27.

A back row attack by Rourke helped put the team back on top inching within one of taking the game, but UCLA kept things interesting holding the Beavers at game point and tying things up again at 29-29.

But two errors, one serving and one attack, by the Bruins led Oregon State to take the game.

The Beavers weren’t able to carry the momentum from game one falling behind the Bruins from the first rally. Oregon State strung together a few pairs of points falling behind at 21-14 after eight attack errors and only four kills.

The Bruins’ Dicey McGraw helped put the game away tallying kills on two of the last three points to tie things up at one game each.

Coming out of the break, Oregon State took the momentum building a quick 8-4 lead, catching the Bruins on their heels. UCLA tied things up at the halfway mark and again at 17-17, keeping the pressure on the Beavers, before taking a one-point lead at 20-19.

Oregon State took over again at 26-25, forcing the Bruins to burn a timeout. The team continued to move closer to taking game three before a ball handling error by Meghan Schoen secured the 2-1 lead for the Beavers.

Game four started similar to the second game with the Bruins coming out solid holding the Beavers out at arm’s length in the first third of the match. But not for long with Oregon State battling back to within one.

UCLA built an 18-10 lead before Oregon State decided to take its first break. The Bruins continued to build its lead, reaching 20 first for the fourth straight time. A service error by Lauren Rinderknecht forced the match into a fifth game.

The two teams tied things up seven times with Oregon State reaching eight first, leading by one when the two teams switched sides before earning its ninth point on a block by Rourke and sophomore Bree Knitter, her seventh block assist of the night.

The Beavers reached match point first at the 14-11 mark, prompting the Bruins to talk things over. UCLA gave Oregon State a scare coming back to within one before a kill by Ah-Hoy put the match away.

Ali Daley paced the Bruins’ offense, racking up a career-high 26 kills, and also led on defense with 25 digs, marking her first 20-20 match. Kaitlin Sather and Rachell Johnson both reached double-digits with 15 and 14.

Oregon State returns home on Friday, Oct. 19, for the Dodge Civil War against No. 19 Oregon. The match-up is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
