Newman on Pole; Johnson Leads Chasers Tonight at LMS

CONCORD, N.C. - Ryan Newman took the pole for Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway with a fast speed of 189.394 mph.

Newman will be joined on the front row by Jimmie Johnson.

Johnson is the king of Lowe's Motor Speedway, winning five times in a span of six races and finishing third in the other.

Bobby Labonte will start third. Rounding out the top ten are: Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Casey Mears, and Greg Biffle.

"Today was all about qualifying and doing what we had to do," Newman said. "You get to a point where the balance doesn't matter as long as everything's safe and NASCAR has done a good job of managing that."
