Willamette Men’s Soccer Weekly Digest

The Bearcats have now dropped six straight contests and have fallen to 1-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in NWC action.

SALEM - The Willamette University men’s soccer team dropped a pair of Northwest Conference matches last week, losing 3-1 to Pacific University on Saturday, and 5-0 to Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday.

On Saturday at Sparks Field, Pacific scored two goals in the first 10 minutes, on its way to a 3-1 win.

Willamette’s goal was scored at 88:57 by Thomas Cloutier (Jr., D, Beaverton, OR/Westview HS) with an assist from Mikey Rodriguez (Jr., F, Beaverton, OR/Southridge HS).

The goal by Cloutier ended a scoreless streak of 436 minutes and four seconds for the Bearcats.

Pacific achieved a 16-11 advantage in total shots. The Boxers also held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal.

Willamette earned six corner kicks, while the Boxers received just one corner kick.

Bearcats goalie Mark Bennett (Fr., Salt Lake City, UT/West HS) registered four saves for the Bearcats.

During Sunday’s game against PLU, Willamette gave up two goals in a span of 37 seconds early in the game and the Bearcats were never able to recover, as the Lutes easily won 5-0.

Willamette took seven shots in the first half, including three shots on goal, but PLU goalkeeper Andrew Croft responded with three saves. PLU took 13 shots in the first half, with six shots on goal.

The Lutes created eight shots in the second half and placed seven of them on goal, as Pacific Lutheran added two more goals. PLU limited the Bearcats to just two shots over the final 45 minutes, with no shots on goal.

Bennett registered a total of eight saves for the Bearcats. He earned five saves in the second half and has recorded 71 saves in Willamette’s 12 games.

Casey Dineen (Fr., MF, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) led the Bearcats with three shots against Pacific Lutheran. He had one shot on goal. WU’s other shots on goal were taken by Trevor Jones (Jr., MF, Portland, OR/Grant HS) and Andrew Monbouquette (Fr., MF, Omaha, NE/Omaha Central HS).

Willamette returns home for its next two games.

The Bearcats will host NWC foe Whitworth College on Saturday.

WU is set to host Whitman College in another NWC contest on Sunday.

Both games are set to begin at 2:30 PM.
