CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State senior forward Jodie Taylor has been named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. The selection marks the first time in her career the forward has been selected for the honor. Taylor, a senior majoring in sociology and criminal justice, is Oregon State’s all time career leader in goals scored (46) and points (111). This season, the senior ranks second in the Pac-10 Conference with 13 goals and 30 points scored. The Merseyside, England, native is a three-time All Pac-10 Conference selection and two-time Academic All Pac-10 choice. With her selection, Taylor is now eligible to be selected for academic all-America as the squad will be announced by CoSIDA later this year. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible. In addition to Taylor, women’s soccer players Whitney Goodell, Najma Homidi, Jetta Sadusky and Ashley Wood were nominated for the academic all-district team on behalf of the Beavers. Taylor and the Beavers will return to action on Friday as Oregon State hosts Cal at 5:00 p.m. in a Pac-10 Conference match. Source: OSU Athletics
