SALEM, Ore. - Willamette University Sunday Sports Wrap From Salem-News.com: Football: Willamette University ran the ball with 19 different players and never had to punt, as the Bearcats routed Lewis & Clark College, 77-17, in a Northwest Conference game at Fred Wilson Field on Saturday. Willamette set school record for points in a game, touchdowns in a game (11), rushing touchdowns in a game (11) and rushing yards in a game (599). The Bearcats improved to 4-5 overall, while moving to 3-2 in the NWC. Lewis & Clark dropped to 0-8 on the season, 0-5 in the NWC. Women's Soccer: Michelle Noelke scored her third goal of the season just over 10 minutes into the game, and the Willamette University defense kept Pacific Lutheran University off the scoreboard for the second time this season, as the Bearcats shut out the Lutes, 1-0, at Sparks Field on Saturday. Kelli Gano recorded her sixth shutout (4-0-2) to finish the year with a 0.89 goals against average. Willamette concluded its season at 8-9-2 overall, including 7-7-2 in the Northwest Conference (5th place). Pacific Lutheran ended the year at 5-13-2, 4-11-1 in the NWC (7th place). Willamette started the season 1-4, but went 8-5-2 the rest of the way. The Bearcats were 4-1 in their last five games, losing only to Chapman, 1-0 in overtime, in a game that Willamette dominated statistically with a 21-5 edge in total shots. Men's Soccer: Greg Beasley pulled Willamette University into a 1-1 tie with Pacific Lutheran University by scoring at 31:04 on Saturday, Nov. 3, but PLU scored late in each half for a 3-1 victory over the Bearcats. Pacific Lutheran broke the tie with a goal 2:04 before halftime, then added an insurance goal with 4:17 remaining in the game. The Lutes improved to 13-6-1 overall, 11-2-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette ended its season at 2-15-2 overall, 0-13-1 in the NWC. Swimming: The University of Puget Sound swept Willamette University in swimming on Saturday at Henry Foss HS, as the Loggers won the women's meet, 106-85, and took first in the men's meet, 132-46. The UPS women improved to 2-0, while the UPS men evened their record at 1-1. Both of Willamette's teams fell to 0-2 on the season. Brittany Thiemens of Willamette won the women's 50-yard freestyle for the Bearcats in a time of 26.54 seconds and took third in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.57. Women's Volleyball: Senior middle blocker Monica Groves provided 18 kills to lead the University of Puget Sound to a 30-27, 30-14, 24-30, 30-11 victory over Willamette University, in a Northwest Conference match at Cone Field House on Saturday. Groves made just three attacking errors on 39 total attempts and earned a .385 hitting percentage to carry the load for UPS. Willamette concluded its season at 4-22 overall and 0-16 in the NWC, while the Loggers improved to 17-8, including 12-4 in the NWC. Willamette was led by junior Jessica Durham who contributed a team-high 17 kills and achieved 10 digs. Durham had an outstanding weekend for the Bearcats, with 24 kills, 23 digs and 2.5 total blocks in two matches.
