Nov-04-2007 17:19CCC Volleyball: Lange Leads Corban Past CascadeSalem-News.com SPORTSWith the win, Corban evens its overall record at 12-12 and improves to 10-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
SALEM, Ore. - In her final home match as a Warrior, senior Ashley Lange recorded a career and match-high 19 kills as Corban's women's volleyball team defeated the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade, 3-2 (30-24, 24-30, 28-30, 36-34, 15-10), Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Senior Recognition Night. In a pre-match ceremony, Lange and fellow senior co-captain Caylin Bankston were honored for their four years of service to the Warrior women's volleyball program. Neither player disappointed the crowd, as the duo put together their best match of the season with Lange recording her career high in kills and Bankston providing a season-high in digs with 16. Even though the home Warriors fell behind two-games-to-one after Game #3, Corban used its never-say-die attitude and stormed back to take the fourth game in extra play and then built an early six-point advantage (9-3) en route to winning the fifth and final game by five points (15-10) and the match in five grueling games. Along with Lange, junior Rashelle Davenport and junior Chelsea Reeher recorded 17 and 15 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Amy Thompson handed out a match-high 60 assists to go along with 25 digs, while Davenport helped anchored Corban's back line with a team-best 27 digs to lead a contingent of five Warriors that recorded 10-or-more digs in tonight's match. Cascade's Amanda Cochran led the Thunderbirds with a team-high 18 kills, while Vanessa Fleetwood and Meagan Stanley added 17 and 16 kills respectively. The T-birds' offense was ran by Claire Van Meer, as she recorded a team-best 56 assists while Rachel Fleetwood recorded a match-high 29 digs in helping anchored Cascade's back line that had six players record 10-or-more digs in the five games. Defensively, Corban recorded a match-high 10.0 team blocks led freshman Teri Braun's match-high six (1 solo, 5 assist), while Cascade had 8.0 team blocks with Cochran registering a team-best five assist blocks. With the win, Corban evens its overall record at 12-12 and improves to 10-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play and guarantees itself at least a .500 finish in conference play this season. Meanwhile, Cascade drops to 4-21 overall, 1-17 in CCC action. The Warriors return to action on Friday, November 9th, when Corban travels south to Ashland to take on the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Red Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. Source: Corban Sports Information
