Martin Truex Jr. Wins First Career Pole at Texas

Current point leader Jeff Gordon posted the second-fastest qualifying time followed by Juan Pablo Montoya.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Martin Truex Jr. earned his first career NASCAR Nextel Cup pole in 7-Eleven Qualifying Friday at Texas Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Dickies 500.

Truex Jr. paced “The Great American Speedway!” with a lap of 27.964 seconds at a speed of 193.105 miles per hour. Truex Jr. earned his first career Nextel Cup Series pole in his 79th career start.

Current point leader Jeff Gordon posted the second-fastest qualifying time while Juan Pablo Montoya, Kevin Harvick and A.J. Allmendinger rounded out the top five, respectively.

The green flag waves on the Dickies 500 this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The race will be broadcast on ABC.
