POMONA, Calif. - Casey Stepan scored a team-high 12 points, carrying Linfield to a convincing 64-50 nonconference victory over winless Pomona-Pitzer Saturday night in the second round of action at the David Wells Classic. Courtney McFadden added 10 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Stepan added six rebounds and four steals in 29 minutes. The Wildcats (4-0) were in command for much of the first half. The Sagehens took a momentary lead, 14-12, on Deirdre Chew’s jumper with 8:47 left in the period. Linfield responded with a 6-0 run, capped by a jumper from Stephanie Fennimore, to seize control. Linfield never trailed after that, building leads of 34-24 on a bucket by Marissa Lindquist and 53-34 after a basket by Emily Shoemaker with 7:58 to play. With seven points from backup guard Kayla Hubrich and six more from Fennimore, the Linfield bench outscored the Pomona-Pitzer reserves 23-11. Hubrich sank 3 of 6 shots from the field. Wildcats point guard Brihtani Lassiter, the team’s leading scorer through three games, was limited to six points, but spread around six assists while adding three steals, two rebounds and one blocked shot. For the game, Linfield shot 40 percent from the field but was a disappointing 1 for 14 from 3-point range. Chew scored a game-high 15 points for Pomona-Pitzer, which dropped to 0-5 for the season. Linfield takes an extended break, returning to action Saturday, Dec. 8, at home against Eastern Oregon. The Wildcats then host Oregon Tech on Monday, Dec. 10. Source: Linfield Athletics
