Lewis & Clark Knocks Off Corban, 77-70

SALEM, Ore. - Junior Wade Douglas scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell, 77-70, to NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Despite shooting a mere 11-for-35 (31.4%) in the opening half, Corban trailed by only six points (38-32) heading into the halftime break.

Over the final twenty minutes, the Warriors started catching fire from the field and took its first lead of the second half at 58-57 with 8:15 remaining following a lay-up by sophomore Paul Martin.

Unfortunately for Corban, Lewis & Clark caught fire and used an 8-0 run over a span of 2:51 to grab a 68-63 lead with 4:09 left. The Warriors got as close as four points (71-67), but could not slow down the hot free throw shooting of the visiting Pioneers as Lewis & Clark hit 6-of-8 over the game's final 68 seconds en route to picking up the seven-point victory, 77-70.

Along with Douglas' game-high point & rebound performances, freshman Ian Logan and junior Jason Braun added 16 and 10 points respectively.

On the boards, Braun and freshman Bryan Martin aided Douglas' cause with 8 and 6 rebounds respectively. Douglas also tallied a team-high four assists, while Logan, Paul Martin, and senior Ben Sisler each recorded two steals.

For Lewis & Clark, Mark Robinowitz led the Pioneers with a team-high 17 points while Tyson Papenfuss and a pair of Lewis & Clark players tallied 16 and 10 points respectively.

Josh Kollasch grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds (all defensive) for Lewis & Clark, while Gene Rivera, Thomas Tillery, and Papenfuss grabbed 8, 6, and 6 boards respectively.

As a team, Corban ended the night shooting 26-for-66 (39.4%) from the field, including 7-for-19 (36.8%) from beyond the arc and 11-for-20 (55.0%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, Lewis & Clark turned in a 29-for-72 (40.3%) performance from the field, 12-for-37 (32.4%) from behind the 3-point line, and 7-for-11 (63.6%) from the free throw line.

With the loss, Corban falls to 2-3 overall while Lewis & Clark improves to 2-1 overall.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday, November 30th, when Corban opens Cascade Collegiate Conference action against the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Olympia, Washington.
