CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seth Tarver scored a career-high 21 points and had eight rebounds as Oregon State defeated Idaho State 56-41 Friday night. Freshman Sean Carter added 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting for the Beavers (2-2) as Oregon State won its second straight contest. Sophomore guard Austin Kilpatrick scored 14 points and junior center Lucas Steijn had 12 points for the visiting Bengals (1-4) in the loss. The game started slowly for the Beavers as the Bengals led by as many as 14 in the first half and 26-19 at the break. But, Oregon State responded in the second half and got off to a hot start in the final stanza as Seth Tarver, a sophomore, put the Beavers ahead for good with a lay-up off an offensive rebound to make it 36-35 with 12 minutes remaining. From there, Oregon State would roll as the Beavers outscored the Bengals 37-15 over the final 20 minutes of play and closed the game on a 22-6 run to claim a 15-point victory. In the win, Oregon State held Idaho State to a season-low 41 points on 18-of-45 (40.0 percent) shooting as the Beavers held a commanding, 14-0 edge in second chance points. The Beavers shot 33 percent (21-of-63); but, out-rebounded the Bengals by 15 as Roeland Schaftenaar set a new career-high with 12 rebounds on the night. In the decisive second half, Oregon State shot an impressive 6-for-11 (54.5 percent) from three-point range as the Bengals managed only one three-pointer over the final 20 minutes. Oregon State had three players reach double figures in the win as Calvin Haynes scored 10 for the Beavers while recording a season and career-high with five assits. The game was the opener of the Beaver Invitational, a three-team round-robin. The University of Portland plays Idaho State at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Oregon State on Sunday at 4:06 p.m.
