SALEM, Ore. - Led by junior Wade Douglas' game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds, Corban's men's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Warriors defeated William Jessup, 108-99, in double overtime Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Despite falling behind by as much as 11 points (40-29) in the opening half, Corban battled back over the final four-plus minutes outscoring William Jessup, 11-2, capped with a three-pointer from senior Hannes Gehring with 90 ticks left on the first half clock. Corban went into the halftime break trailing by a mere two points, 42-40. In the second half, Corban used an 11-0 run in the opening 4:22 to grab its largest lead of the contest so far (51-42). Unfortunately for the host Warriors, William Jessup battled back and tied the game at 72-all with 3:41 remaining behind a jumper from Shaughn Hull. Each team tallied eight points over the final three-plus minutes with Corban junior Kyle Masten hitting the game-tying three-pointer with 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation after Douglas grabbed a much-needed offensive rebound to set-up Masten's heroics. The first overtime was similar to the second half with neither team grabbing larger than a four-point advantage, as Corban secured a pair of four-point leads (84-80 & 88-84). Trailing by a mere point (88-87) following a Max Botner free throw with 2:15 to go, William Jessup got an old-fashion three-point play from Alex Dimotsantos to grab a 90-88 lead with 51 seconds remaining. Masten once again stepped up to the challenge and came up big for Corban, as the junior point guard hit another game-tying jumper with 38 ticks on the clock to send the game into a second extra period. In the second overtime, Dimotsantos gave William Jessup its final lead of the game when he took the opening tip and scored on an uncontested lay-up a mere three seconds into the final period. Senior Ben Sisler knocked down a pair of Warrior free throws to tie the game for the ninth and final time before Douglas hit a jumper and Sisler canned Corban's tenth and final three-pointer of the night to go up by five (97-92). Masten then stepped to the free throw line and single-handedly outscored William Jessup, 6-0, to ice the game and give the host Warriors a 103-92 advantage with 1:35 remaining. Freshman Clay Martin and Sisler scored the Warriors' final five points, as Sisler made a pair of free throws with 69 ticks on the clock before Martin scored the game's final two points on a fast-break lay-up with six seconds left. Along with Douglas' game-high point performance, Sisler, freshman Ian Logan, and Masten chipped in with 22, 19, and 17 points respectively. Besides Douglas' 11 rebounds, junior Jason Braun and Sisler added 8 and 6 boards respectively while Masten handed out a game-high eight assists. For William Jessup, Botner poured in a team-high 23 points while Dimotsantos and Hull added 21 and 15 points respectively. On the boards, Botner pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds while Dimotsantos and Hull grabbed 10 and 6 boards respectively. As a team, Corban shot 36-for-72 (50.0%) from the field, including 10-for-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc and 26-for-35 (74.3%) from the free throw line. On the other hand, William Jessup turned in a 39-for-83 (47.0%) performance from the field, 9-for-26 (34.6%) from behind the 3-point line, and 12-for-13 (92.3%) from the free throw line. With the victory, Corban evens its early season record at 2-2 overall while William Jessup falls to 3-4 overall. The Warriors will return to action on Saturday, when Corban hosts NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
