LAS VEGAS - Ashley Allen and Talisa Rhea both connected on three second-half three pointers, but it wasn’t enough as Montana defeated the Oregon State women’s basketball team, 57-42, Friday afternoon at the opening game of the Lady Rebel Shootout at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The loss drops the Beavers to 2-1 overall this season while Montana improves to 2-2.

Oregon State will play again Saturday with the time still to be announced, dependent on the UNLV-Richmond game that started after Oregon State-Montana.

Allen led the Beavers with 14 points, her second double-figure scoring effort of the season. She opened the game with five points in the first half, then had nine in the second. Allen finished the game 5-of-13 from the floor and was 3-for-8 from beyond the three-point line.

Rhea, meanwhile, scored all nine of her points off the three second-half three-pointers. The first came at the 13:51 mark, with the second close behind at 13:18. That three-pointer pulled the Beavers to within eight, 34-26.

Montana, however, was able to control the game from that point on. Sonya Rogers led Montana with 17 points, connecting on 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point line.

Tiffany Ducker posted 10 rebounds to lead both teams. Oregon State and Montana both had 38 rebounds.

Montana controlled the first half, taking a 23-11 into halftime.

Rogers paced the Lady Grizzlies with 12 points after connecting on two three-pointers. Allen led the Beavers with five points of her own, while Ducker’s six rebounds led both teams.

Oregon State pulled to within six, 17-11, at the 4:19 mark of the first half on an Ashley Allen layup. Allen was set up perfectly on the play by point guard Mercedes Fox-Griffin, who bounced a pass to Allen from behind her back on a 2-on-1 break.

Montana, however, finished up the half by scoring the final six points, including Rogers’ second three-pointer, it coming at the 1:21 mark.

Oregon State plays the loser of UNLV-Richmond on Saturday in the second day of the Lady Rebel Shootout. If Richmond wins, the Beavers will play at 3:30 p.m. against UNLV. If UNLV wins, the Beavers will play Richmond at 1 p.m.
