CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men’s basketball team returns to action tonight as the Beavers host Idaho State in the opening contest of the Beaver Invitational presented by Salbasgeon Suites at 7:00 p.m. from Gill Coliseum. Other contests at the Beaver Invitational include Portland and Idaho State squaring off on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. with Oregon State and the Pilots closing out the round-robin tournament on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Oregon State enters the weekend with a 1-2 record after opening the season at the BP Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. Marcel Jones, who earned all-tournament honors last week, led the Beavers at the tournament averaging 18.0 points over three games. The senior hit 10-straight shots in the win over USC Upstate to lead the Beavers in scoring with 23 in the victory. Seth Tarver also had a solid outing at the tournament as the sophomore reached double figures in every contest, establishing a career-high with 16 points in the victory over USC Upstate. Idaho State enters the week with a record of 0-3 on the season after dropping a pair of decisions last week to BYU and Long Beach State. The Bengals fell to BYU, 90-69, before dropping an overtime decision to Long Beach State, 66-61. Chron Tatum leads the way for the Bengals with three straight double-figure scoring games, and leads the team with 14.7 points per game. Matt Stucki ranks second on the team with a 12.7 average after his 19-point and Amorrow Morgan has reached double figures in back-to-back contest. Tatum’s 6.7 rebounding average leads the squad. The Bengals are averaging just 57.7 points per game, and are giving up 71.3 per game. Idaho State has been solid from the line at .702; but, the Bengals have been outrebounded in all three games this season and are getting outrebounded by an average of almost six boards per game. The meeting with the Bengals marks only the third time the teams will square off in the series. Idaho State and Oregon State have split the two previous meetings with the Beavers defeating the Bengals, 63-53, during the 1998-99 season. Idaho State won the initial meeting with a 55-49 win during the 1958-59 season.
