CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball program is pleased to add five for 2009, announced Thursday by head coach Taras Liskevych. The first three additions ready for release are Megan McBride, Jessica Roberts and Alyssa O’Neil.

Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash./Auburn-Mountainview HS/Puget Sound VBC)

Megan, a 6-1 setter/opposite hitter, was named to the 2007 Washington All-State Class 3A team, earning honorable mention honors at setter and picking up South Puget Sound League 3A first team accolades. In 2006, she earned All-State first team honors for setting and second team honors as a hitter. She was named the SPSL Most Valuable Player and earned first team league honors. Her high school team is currently in the state tournament playoffs.

On top of her state and league honors, McBride was named to the Prepvolleyball.com’s Top 59 Frosh list. And she was the 2005 U14 Emerald City Classic Tournament Most Valuable Player.

“Megan is a tall, aggressive, left-handed setter with great potential in a 6-2 offense as well as a 5-1,” Liskevych said. “She has very good court demeanor and is tough under pressure. We look forward to Megan continuing to advance her setting, attacking and serving skills. She has the potential to become a factor in the Beaver line-up early in her career.”

Jessica Roberts (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS/Oasis VBC)

Jessi, a 6-1 middle blocker/outside hitter, is enrolled at Oregon State, beginning classes winter term of the 2008-09 academic year. Her high school team is also currently in the run for a state title.

“Jessi flew under most universities’ recruiting radars, and we were pleased to scoop her up and have her join us in the winter of 2009,” Liskevych said. “She is a very physical athlete with outstanding strength, jumping ability and quickness. With little volleyball experience, she will have a lot of catching up to do. But once she acquires the necessary PAC-10 skills, Jessica could be the ‘who’s that girl?’ of our 2009 recruiting class.”

Alyssa O’Neil (West Linn, Ore./West Linn HS/Portland VBC)

Alyssa, a 5-9 defensive specialist/outside hitter, joins the Oregon State volleyball program after helping lead her 2008 high school team to a second place finish at the Oregon Class 6A Tournament, capturing unanimous First Team All-State accolades. In 2007, she led her high school team to the state title, while picking up her first All-State First Team honors.

“Alyssa knows how to win,” Liskevych said. “She has had great success in both high school and club and was a key part of those accomplishments. Possessing great quickness and jumping ability for her 5-9 frame in addition to spot-on ball control, we see Alyssa being a top defensive and serving specialist with an occasional attacking role.”

“I’m so excited to be attending Oregon State next year,” O’Neil said. “I think that Oregon State is a great program that continues to grow, and I’m happy to be playing volleyball in college because it is something that I have always dreamed and aspired of doing. I can’t wait to start my career at Oregon State.”

Oregon State continues the 2008 season at home this weekend against No. 5 Washington and Washington State. The Beavers will face the Huskies at 7:00 PM on Friday and the Cougars on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
