Nov-12-2007 07:44Creamer Rolls to 8-Shot Win at LPGA Tournament of ChampionsSalem-News.com SPORTSBirdie Kim (-12) finished second, while Natalie Gulbis, Annika Sorenstam, and Pat Hurst finished in a three way tie for third (-10).
MOBILE, Ala. - Paula Creamer recorded her fourth career victory on Sunday at The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions after carding a 21-under-par (67-65-68-68=268). The 21-year-old used her second consecutive round of 4-under-par 68 to distance herself by eight strokes from the field. Creamer recorded an LPGA season-best 62 straight holes without a bogey from her 10th hole on Thursday until her 71st hole on Sunday, besting the 53-hole mark set by Lorena Ochoa at the Safeway International Presented by Coca-Cola. With her victory, Creamer also became the second player on Tour this season to record multiple wire-to-wire victories (Suzann Pettersen). She won the 54-hole SBS Open at Turtle Bay in Hawaii in March, the season's first tournament and led wire-to-wire. She also joins Lorena Ochoa (7) and Suzann Pettersen (5) as the only three multiple winners on Tour this season. Playing in just her 12th tournament of the 2007 season, Annika Sorenstam secured her position in next week's ADT Championship with a tie for third place at The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions. A 69-time winner on the LPGA Tour, Sorenstam was one spot away from qualifying based on second half ADT points entering this week, but she finished the week at 10-under-par (71-67-70-70=278), good enough to boost her to ninth place in second half ADT points. Pat Hurst made a bogey on her 72nd hole, but still managed her best finish of the season in a tie for third place at 10-under-par (69-69-68-72=278). Playing in the final group with Paula Creamer, Hurst made two birdies and two bogies en route to an even-par final round. Korea's Jimin Kang used a season-best 7-under-par 65 to finish in a tie for sixth, her best of the season. Kang (71-76-68-65=280) finished the week at 8-under-par. England's Karen Stupples topped her season-best tie for 11th at the Longs Drugs Challenge with a tie for tenth this week. Stupples, who played sparingly this year following the birth of her first child, shot 6-under-par (72-67-74-69=282) this week. Rolex Rankings number one Lorena Ochoa notched her 20th top-10 finish in 24 events played in 2007 this week at The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions. The 25-year-old recovered from three bogies and a double bogey on the front-nine Sunday to shoot a 2-under-par 70, concluding her week at 7-under-par (74-69-68-70=281), good for ninth place.
