CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University is pleased to announce that it will host the Second Annual Willamette Volleyball Classic this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The event will be capped by an exhibition match between Oregon State and Portland State on Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. in legendary Gill Coliseum. Admission is free, and the first 500 fans will receive a free Oregon State volleyball poster.

The junior tournament, which will attract four different age groups (12’s, 14’s, 16’s, and 18’s), is expected to draw over 170 teams to Corvallis and the Oregon State campus during Mother’s Day weekend with teams traveling from as far away as Hawaii. Thirty-four courts await the participants across campus, with courts at Gill Coliseum, Truax Indoor Center, Oregon State’s indoor tennis courts, McAlexander Fieldhouse, Dixon Recreation Center and Langton Hall.

The public is invited to join in the fun and festivities throughout the weekend. There is no admission charge for entrance into competition venues or to Fan Fest.

On Friday, May 9th, the tournament begins with the Willamette Volleyball Classic Showcase at 4 p.m. A select number of teams will take part in the Showcase, with top teams from each age group playing in three-team pools on Friday afternoon. Following pool play will be single elimination playoffs, culminating in the WVC Showcase Championship in Gill Coliseum.

On Saturday, May 10th, teams in all age groups will advance through a morning wave of three-team pools to a second round of pools in the afternoon. Based on Saturday’s results, teams will advance into another three-team pool on Sunday morning, determining placement into the single elimination playoff brackets. Bracket play will begin by 2 p.m. on Sunday. Matches begin at 8 a.m. on both days, and are tentatively scheduled to end at 8 p.m. Complete schedules will be available in the Truax Indoor Center. The finals for the 14, 16 and 18 age groups will be played on the main court in Gill Coliseum on Sunday afternoon 4 to 6 p.m. (projected time).

The hub of the Willamette Volleyball Classic is Fan Fest, located at the Truax Indoor Center. Throughout the weekend, Fan Fest provides hospitality, entertainment, and an exciting atmosphere for tournament participants and fans alike. A central tournament scoreboard will keep participants up-to-date on each team’s standing in the tournament. Fan Fest will also feature two interactive areas for tourney participants as well as for younger fans, including activities ranging from teaching volleyball skills to measuring volleyball proficiencies. Fan Fest will have concessions and booths from tournament sponsors such as ASICS, Wilson, Pepsi, Togo’s, Jamba Juice, Domino’s, and vendors including Sports Imports, Wilson, Excel Sports and Volleyball Memorabilia Roadshow. Fan Fest also includes a free inflatable interactive area for children ages 3-7.

On Mother’s Day, (Sunday, May 11th), the Willamette Volleyball Classic will hold a specially catered Mother’s Day Brunch. Available to all tournament participants, the brunch will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the beautiful second floor Founders Loge of Reser Stadium.
