May-07-2008 05:35Corban Trio Named to All-Conference, Gold Glove TeamsSalem-News.com SPORTSCorban ended its season at 10-31 overall, 7-17 in NAIA Region I play.
SALEM, Ore. - Corban College seniors Jordan Emery (Salem, Ore.) and Daniel Flores (San Jose, Calif.) were named as members of the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference team to go along with fellow senior Jamie McGraw's (Gaston, Ore.) honorable mention and Gold Glove recognition. After placing four players on the all-conference team last season, along with another two honorable mention recognitions, the Warriors capped three amazing careers when the aforementioned trio was named as members of this year's team. Emery, a senior right-handed pitcher and utility infielder, was the ace of this year's Warrior pitching staff. The North Salem High School graduate appeared in a team-high tying 16 games that included a conference and team-high 13 starts en route to accumulating a win-loss record of 5-6. Emery pitched a team-high seven complete games, while hurling a conference and team-high 88.1 innings. The four-year player struck out a conference and team-high 71 batters, while registering an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 5.81. Career-wise, Emery finished his four years in a Warrior uniform as the program's all-time leader in innings pitched (301.2) and games started (50), while tying for the lead in wins with 17. The 6-foot-3 right-hander is also tied for second in shut outs (2), third in appearances (62), third in complete games (19), and third in strikeouts (182) on the all-time lists. Flores, a senior middle infielder, played only one year at Corban after transferring from The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California. The 5-foot-10 shortstop led the team in at-bats (151), hits (52), doubles (13), home runs (4), runs batted in (38), total bases (79), slugging percentage (.523), hit by pitch (4), and assists (123). At the conference level, Flores was the conference leader in slugging percentage, runs batted in, and doubles, while finishing tied for 4th in home runs and 5th in total bases. In just one season in a Warrior uniform, Flores ranks in the top 10 for a single season in four offensive categories that includes runs batted in (tied for 4th), doubles (tied for 6th), batting average (tied for 10th), and total bases (tied for 10th). McGraw, a senior outfielder, received the second all-conference honorable mention of his career after being named to the 1st team last season. The 6-foot center fielder was the "table setter" for the Warriors throughout his three-year career at the lead off position and led this year's team in games played (41), games started (41), runs scored (28), triples (2), on-base percentage (.438), walks (36), and stolen bases (16). In the conference, McGraw was the leader among all players in walks (36) and steal attempts (25), while finishing tied for 1st in triples, 2nd in stolen bases, and 3rd in on-base percentage. For his career, McGraw ranks 2nd in stolen bases (44), 3rd in walks (75), tied for 3rd in triples (4), 6th in runs scored (94), 8th all-time in batting average (.312), and 8th in hits (144). On the second-ever Gold Glove Team, McGraw was the lone Warrior to make the team. The fleet-footed Yamhill-Carlton High School graduate was honored as the conference's best center fielder after committing zero errors in 103 attempts with eight assists en route to tying for the team lead in fielding percentage with a perfect 1.000. McGraw's fielding percentage was the best among everyday players for the Warriors. Corban ended its season at 10-31 overall, 7-17 in NAIA Region I play. For second-year head coach Nate Mayben, today's players bring his two-year total to nine players that he has coached to all-conference recognition.
